The impossible triangle of relationships

You've heard of the impossible triangle in economics where can only have two (2) of the three:

Perfect capital mobility
Fixed exchange rate
Independent monetary policy

What it means:

Perfect capital mobility: you can invest anywhere you like (but not to certain countries banned by the goverment)

Fixed exchange rate: unless the other country's banking system collapses, you're always going to get a certain amount of your money per dollar

Independent monetary policy: the FED determines interest rates

What it really means:

Perfect capital mobility: you can take all his money and put them in a Swiss bank account

Fixed exchange rate: No matter how much money he gives you, there's only so much you'll return to him

Independent monetary policy: you can't dictate how much the store will charge its clothes and how much you pay for them back on your credit card

So you can only have 2 of the 3...

(1) Perfect capital mobility & Fixed exchange rate: you can take his money and spend all of it and give him a certain amount of new clothes

(2) Perfect capital mobility & Independent monetary policy: you can take his money (spend all of it) and use his credit card to pay for it (but all the clothes are for you)

or (3) Fixed exchange rate & Independent monetary policy: You can buy him a certain amount of new clothes with his credit card (you don't get anything)...but why would you want this?

Similarly, there's the impossible triangle of relationships:

Hooking up: not exclusive to one partner
Engagements: you've made a tentative wedding date
Casual dating: not necessarily mutally exclusive, can be

What it means for you:

(1) Hooking up & Engagements: it started out as phsyical desire, but now you're in love and want to get married

(2) Hooking up & casual dating: it's physical desire, but not just for him alone

or (3) Engagements & Casual dating: it started out as a date, but now you like him enough to want to get married

**********

Thought of the day: It's a woman's prerogative to be indecisive (about a guy); it's the man's job to convince her otherwise.
