Modernism at its best or a freudian slip gone wrong?
It looked like a scene from a chick flick: girl sees cute guy at store, guy flirts with girl, girl flirts back. The Second encounter: girl sees guy, guy sees girl, guy leaves girl his number.
So what went wrong with this picture?
Was it the fact that I said "are you really going to let me leave without giving me your number?" instead of "are you really going to let *me* leave without asking for my number?" Or was "getting a cup of coffee" his way of telling me sometime in the vague future, if he was really interested and not flirting for the sake of flirting, he's not interested in me ?
Ignoring the part of me that yes, it's the 20th century, so it's ok for women to ask men out, I wonder if "the chase" is really all that it's made out to be. A couple of male friends told me if a guy is interested in a girl, he'll call her/find some way to get in touch with her even if she doesn't give her number. (In short, fulfilling the stereotype, that men can only appreciate what they have AFTER they chase it.)
What it because I violated the first two principles of dating rules for asians (aka never ask guys for his number and hint I was interested in him) that I didn't get a call back or was it, as friends pointed out not-so-subtley, a lack of interest on his part ?
What happened to the simple days of man sees women => man beats his chest and makes loud noises (and stupid jokes) to get woman's attention => woman either decides to walk by and ignore him or respond in kind (aka preens and fixes her hair) => man chases woman (procuring various forms of chocolate and other food and tickets to the movies) and man and woman go on a date?
