Wanted, but not found
After watching the first half of Sex and the City (Season 2 if anyone really cares), one of the thing that came to mind was that these women seem to be complete gluttons for emotional and pyschological punishment of themselves. Carrie continues to try to have a relationship with Mr. Big, even though she admits in one episode that he is emotionally unavailable; Miranda has a thing for angry men; Samantha just wanted to sleep with any rich guy; and Charlotte believes in "Mr. Right/Prince Charming" by projecting her fantasy on any man she dates.Carrie diagnoses each of her friend's problems (and her own), but the end of this particular episode seems to imply that despite recognizing these problems and trying to change yourself (ie. discontinue your current bad habit) are not enough because one will develop new bad habits/patterns. And there is a certain amount of truth behind that. But in the mean time, how happy/adjusted are they?
They seem partially psycotic in at least this episode. Miranda sees Skippy on the street and becomes more attracted to him when he brushes her off and Carrie wanted to date her "fuck buddy" in a attempt to find a new relationship. They seem to love to state the fact that they're single/available, but can't handle being on their own (not in a relationship or going without sex for one episode).
All of them, except Samantha, continue to be in relationships where no man can ever meet her expectation. And they continue to choose the wrong man over and over again. From watching Season Two (or any season), should women actively search for "the right" guy (b/c women are liberated in society) or wait for the right guy to come to them ?
Their self confidence is directly proportional to the state they're in single-in which case they must do their best to attract men they find attractive, but not seem desperate to be in a relationship-or in a relationship-where they continue to impose their goals on the guy they're dating.
Is it possible (and/or realistic) for any of them (or any woman) to not to try to change anything about themselves while waiting or trying to find the right guy for them?
