Asiansomething

Why is it that no matter how long you've been in the US, you still feel "ethnic pride"* and you still identify yourself with that country ? And no matter how "American" anyone else is around you, they always ask that inevitable question: "where are you from/what are you?" It's understandable to ask that if it's someone you just met and if you don't know anything about that person. Still, it's troubling when someone tells you "you can't go to XYZ club because you're not of that ethnicity."

All of this reminds me of last season's "America's Next Top Model" where the final contestants went to Tokyo to learn about Japanese fashion and culture. Japanese street fashion looks like a cross between 80s clothing in the US and an eclectic punk meets cute girl. The result was something that you could wear only in Japan.

*Proud to be from a certain country

Yes, I'm sure they are, but you don't see those girls on tv.
